If I could claimed to have designed any building ... this would be in the top 10 ...
I am very jealous of Antonio Gaudi for having been such a great Architect. Of course it
helps when you have benifactors who love your ideas and don't have you killed for going over budget.
For those of you who have not studied Gaudi's history (I spent a year in Spain with the expressed purpose
of seeing all his buildings -- I saw alot of them but missed a few: Of course it is not clear to me even now
that historians even know of all of them ... could turn out that there are a couple of "lost" Gaudi
buildings (unattributed). I try not to fixate on such things, but it doesn't always work.)
Well then, as I was saying ... For those of you who have not studied Gaudi's history ...
As interesting as Gaudi was, I am also intrigued by the artists/architects/engineers who collaborated
with him and were his contemporaries ... certainly, one's environment qualifies one's contributions (IMHO).
So I recommend checking out
Josep Maria Jujol:
His buildings are to me equally ambitious/creative. Spain in
this period (early 1900's) produced not only Gaudi and Jujol, but also Salvador Dali
[1, 2]
and Pablo Picaso.
(Ay! Caramba! Don't forget
Joan Miro:)
What a milieu ..
(Of course none of my typed spanish surnames have the correct accents in place as I don't
feel compelled to figure out how to switch the language of my keyboard or to risk waisting 10 hrs figuring
out if they will display correctly in html)
